2022 | RATED R | RUN TIME 108M

Join us for a special in-theatre screening of Peacock’s political thriller, The Independent, along with an exclusive talkback after the film with the film’s Director, two-time Emmy-nominee Amy Rice (“BY THE PEOPLE: The Election of Barack Obama”), and Screenwriter (and Mamaroneck High School alum) Evan Parter. Moderated by Matt Sullivan, independent filmmaker and Executive Director of LMC Media.

Directed by two-time Emmy-nominee Amy Rice (“By the People: The Election of Barack Obama”), The Independent opens in the final weeks of the most consequential presidential election in history. America is poised to elect either its first female president or its first viable independent candidate. Reporting history as it’s made, an idealistic young journalist teams up with her idol, legendary journalist Nick Booker, to uncover a conspiracy that places the fate of the election, and the country, in their hands.

Produced by Anonymous Content, Park Pictures, and Next Productions. Starring Brian Cox (“Succession,”) Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen & Slim,”) John Cena (“Vacation Friends,”) Ann Dowd (“Handmaid’s Tale,”) Luke Kirby (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,”) Stephen Lang (Avatar) and Michael Gandolfini (“The Many Saints of Newark.”) The film was directed by Emmy-winning Amy Rice (HBO’s “By the People.”)

Born and raised in New York where he graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 2004, Evan Parter’s first screenplay, The Independent, landed in the top ten on the 2013 Black List and went into production in NYC in November of 2021.
One of 20 writers chosen out of 5,000 applicants to participate in Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s “Imagine Impact” accelerator program in 2019, Evan wrote a half-hour comedy pilot, “Playing God,” which Gaz Alazraki (Father of the Bride) has come on board to direct. Evan has several projects in development including a  feature for Next Productions about two men who escaped from Auschwitz concentration camp, with Alex Wolff set to star and Oscar-winning Aaron Schnieder attached to direct. As well as a feature for Amazon Studios about the Watergate scandal with Chris Pine attached to star, and Billy Ray (“Captain Phillips”) attached to produce.

Amy Rice has been working in the film industry for over 15 years. From 2004-2009 Rice and Alicia Sams directed, produced, and shot the Emmy award-winning film “BY THE PEOPLE: The Election of Barack Obama,” a film about President Obama’s historic run for the presidency in 2008, which premiered on HBO in November 2009 and earned them an Emmy nomination for directing and producing.

Rice was a staff writer on the first season of Aaron Sorkin’s, “The Newsroom,” on HBO. In 2015 Netflix released Rice’s documentary, “Hurricane of Fun,” which chronicles the making of the cult classic comedy, Wet Hot American Summer. Over the past year, Amy directed the documentary, Broadway Rising, about the toll of COVID on the Broadway community and its inspiring journey back to opening night, which was produced by Park Pictures, A Kid Named Becket Productions, & Station 10 Media, and distributed by Vertical Entertainment.

Matt Sullivan is an independent filmmaker and Executive Director of LMC Media. As a writer, producer, and director Matt has worked on countless films, music videos, commercials, and television shows including “24,” “The Office,” “Castle,” “House, and Deal or No Deal.” His catalog of independent films has been showcased at film festivals worldwide.
