The Ivy League of Comedy is the premier group of stand-up comedians touring America. Known for their elite brand of clever comedy, you’ve heard their brilliant comedic voices on late-night TV and Comedy Central. Now come see them live on stage! Featuring Al Lubel, J-L Cauvin and Joanne Filan.
Al Lubel became a lawyer to please his mother and a year later became a standup comedian in order to displease her.
Al began getting work at comedy clubs and within a year won the $100,000 Comedy Grand Prize on television’s Star Search. Doing The Tonight Show was a childhood fantasy so he auditioned and luckily became one of the last comics to appear with Johnny Carson. He then went on to make a bunch of appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and the Late Show with David Letterman. In 1992, Al was the subject of A Standup Life, directed by Peter Lydon for the BBC. A documentary about American standup comedy featuring Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Hope, Mort Sahl and Joan Rivers.
Al’s solo show, Mentally Al, won the Amused Moose Award Judges Prize as the best one person show in the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Two years later he was nominated for best performer of a one person show by the Barry Awards at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2016, Al was Marc Maron’s guest on WTF and a year later moved to London where he did standup for three years in the UK and Europe.
A new documentary about Al directed by Joshua Edelman, Mentally Al, is being distributed by Comedy Dynamics and can be seen on Amazon Prime and YouTube.
J-L is a veteran stand-up comedian who became an Internet sensation with over 30 million views across social media of his impressions and sketch videos since 2020. Throughout his career he has been seen and heard on The Late Late Show, Howard Stern, Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, The Adam Carolla Show and ESPN radio. He has 6 stand-up albums to his credit and just recorded his first stand up special. He recently made his TV drama debut on season 6 of Showtime’s hit show Billions.
Growing up in New Jersey (but refusing to die there), Joanne Filan has made her way around the comedy club scene and around the country. She even reaches the masses through her TV and media appearances, including Here TV’s Hot Gay Comics, Comedy Time TV, and in “Comics Favorite Jokes” in the NY Post. She can also be seen in a new documentary entitled “Words: An Exploration of Identity”. She has ventured into the college circuit- hosting, featuring, and headlining in events at Bryn Mawr College, Monmouth and Lehigh Universities and many more. She is also a regular guest lecturer for creative writing classes at St. John’s University- ensuring her creativity will go on, despite any side effects.
Over a decade into the business and Joanne has never been more on top of her game. She consistently delivers a unique “stream of consciousness” style of humor full of random thoughts and quirky observations that keep audiences either rolling in the aisles or on the edges of their seats, anxious to hear what she has to say next. With an amazing gift for improv, razor-sharp wit, and a subtle delivery, Joanne is an unexpected gem- a comedian so able to tap into the moment that no two shows are ever alike.
