Lee Rocker: Stray Cats Legend and Bass Icon

Lee Rocker, a Grammy-nominated musician and Bass Player Hall of Famer, is best known as a founding member of The Stray Cats. With smash hits like “Stray Cat Strut,” “Sexy and Seventeen,” and “Rock This Town,” the band sold over 10 million albums and became MTV trailblazers. “Rock This Town” is celebrated by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 most essential rock songs.

Rocker’s stellar career includes a Rolling Stone cover, appearances on Saturday Night Live, and tours with the Rolling Stones. He has also performed with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, and John Fogerty. In a rare Grammy event, both Rocker and his father, Stanley Drucker, were nominated for Grammys in 1982.

In 2012, Rocker starred in the Broadway hit “Million Dollar Quartet” and was inducted into the Bass Player Hall of Fame in 2014. His accolades include inductions into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, Long Island Music Hall of Fame, and the Visionary Artist Award from Laguna Beach, California.

Rocker has been consistently touring, recording and performing around the globe since 1980 and has cultivated a fanatically loyal following. He is known for making his upright double bass appear as if it were a lightweight instrument as he spins, throws it in the air, catches and plays it on stages throughout the world. His concert show is a time for him to tell stories about his days on the road and in the music business for the last 35 years – including sharing stories about his adventures lugging the giant piece of equipment around.
