Presented by Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Mamaroneck.
Sparks will fly when the elegance, glamour and energy of ballroom dance combine with the excitement of live theater – on one very special night.
On Sunday, April 30, the popular “Ballroom Extravaganza” event returns to the Emelin Theatre with a new show, poised to dazzle its audience for the second year in a row. Reimagined for 2017, “Ballroom Extravaganza: Dancing in New York,” promises a night of big-city entertainment, inspired by New York City’s scintillating rhythms and rich dance traditions.
Supporting the inclusive spirit of the arts, “Ballroom Extravaganza: Dancing in New York” opens its stage to collaboration among professional dancers and talented students from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio Mamaroneck. The Broadway-style spectacular offers two acts of specially choreographed Ballroom and Latin numbers, dynamic ensembles, characteristic music, colorful stagecraft, dazzling costumes, humor and high energy.
Performing dancers represent various ages, styles and accomplishments. Together, they will enliven the evening with a kaleidoscope of choreographies. Many of the routines will feature paired professionals and trained amateurs, much like the seasonal partnerships on “Dancing With the Stars.” Group numbers will also showcase the combined energies of professionals and amateurs, as they sway, spin and shimmy together. Fans will experience favorite Ballroom, Latin and Club dances – including waltz, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha, hustle, salsa, Argentine tango and swing – but they should also be prepared for the delight of unexpected surprises.
“This show demonstrates the range of accomplishment and progression that students can achieve. It includes students who have been dancing for more than five years, as well as enthusiastic beginners. All of the numbers are accomplished and polished. We look forward to bringing you an evening of beautiful entertainment.”
